EAA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING DECEMBER 08, 2022
EAA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING DECEMBER 08, 2022
The Esquimalt Anglers’ Association will be holding their Annual General Meeting on Thursday December 08, 2022 at 7:00 PM at the Fleming Beach clubhouse. Besides adopting the Annual Financial Statement and electing a new executive and directors, the Association will be considering a motion to raise annual membership dues.
Near future substantial expenses include replacing five or six dock sections at a possible cost of $25,000 each. The building exterior cladding needs replacing at an unknown cost and the roof may have to be replaced in the not too distant future. Insurance costs have been increasing excessively – this year over $7000 which represents about $20 per membership. GST adds another $3 per membership.
The EAA presently have the lowest cost annual membership fees on the south Island and the best facilities. Membership numbers have been declining rather steadily for many years. In 1989 there were a total of 1004 memberships in all categories (owner, associate, junior and commercial). Owner memberships total 354 this year; down from 409 in 2021. This is a 13% decline over one year. Day launches have also decreased from 609 at September 30 last year to only 487 this year – a decline of 20%.
Considering all these factors, a motion will be presented to increase annual owner dues to $100 (from $70 this year), commercial memberships to $150 (from $100 this year) and day launches to $20 (from $15 this year). These new rates to become effective for the 2023 membership year.
These increases will assist in protecting the long term sustainability of the Association and its facilities. Please plan on attending to voice your opinion.
